Donald Trump Has No Shame

I remember how much my grandmother used to love me. The way she would take care of me and play with me and give me everything I needed and everything I wanted that would be good for me.

But most of all, I remember how she would look at me. Those soft, brown eyes filled with love. I’ll never forget.

But Grandma expected me to be a good puppy, plain and simple. It was part of her love for me, that she would help me to be a puppy that she could be proud of – that I could be proud of. A puppy that would be an example for other puppies, that could help make our world happy and nice. Simple ideas – puppy ideas.

But one day I did something nasty. I don’t know why. It just came over me. I’ll never forget that day. Grandma just looked at me and said four words, “I’m ashamed of you.”

And the way she looked at me. The love was still in her eyes, but also something else. Shock. Disappointment. Sadness. Shame. “I’m ashamed of you.”

Like I said, I’ll never forget.

I don’t think anyone in Donald Trump’s life ever taught him that lesson. Anyone who can say and do shameful things, day after day, without uttering a word of apology or feeling an iota of regret, is shameless.

What does it mean to be shameless?

It means that you can say or do anything and justify it.

You can incite violence and fan the flames of racism.

You can insult and demean anyone who crosses you or disagrees with you.

You can blow more hot air about yourself than any other topic you ever discuss or pontificate about. By far.

You can measure success by having “a young and beautiful piece of ass.”

You can publicly admit you have thought about how nice it would be to “date” your daughter. (“Yeah, she’s really something, and what a beauty, that one. If I weren’t happily married and, ya know, her father…”)

You can say you would never buy your wife “any decent jewels or pictures” because they are “negotiable assets.”

You can say things like the following: “Do you think Putin will be going to The Miss Universe Pageant in November in Moscow – if so, will he become my new best friend?”

You can steal from little people the little money they have to provide a secure future for themselves and their families.

You can cheat people willing to pay for an education that they trustingly believe will make them more employable.

You can try to steal the land of an elderly widow.

Basically, you can demean, sue, intimidate, extort, bully, and generally walk over anyone who gets in the way of your getting what you want.

We call this spectacular selfishness. We call this obscene greed.

We call this an immoral human being with no shame, which is to say, no conscience. And, personally, I don’t want to live with this man in a shining city of shame.

And if you do, I’m a puzzled puppy.
